Chip Ganassi is off to one of his hottest starts as an owner in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.  Currently Ganassi has two drivers in the top 10, Kyle Larson, the series points leader, and Jamie McMurray, currently placed 7th.  Both positions in points, if held, would qualify each team for the end of season playoff.

Ganassi was beaming after the Auto Club 400 where his teams took 1st and 6th. “I keep saying it doesn’t take much.  We made some small changes in places where we could make improvements.  A lot of it comes down to Kyle, he’s starting to mature into what the car will accept and won’t accept. Putting a weekend together. Putting together a practice. Putting together qualifying. Putting together a race. Pit stop after pit stop after pit stop. Keeping your head in the game. I think he’s matured a lot in that manner and I couldn’t be happier for him.”

Larson also credits his pit crew and teammates. When asked about the success he says with a grin “I’m just really fortunate to be driving really fast race cars right now.  Our cars by far as good as they’ve ever been and really good at every race track.  I feel like can win every weekend I go to the racetrack. It’s something I’ve hoped for to get to that in my NASCAR career.  In the past I had race tracks that I knew I’d be good at but we’re going to some tracks that aren’t great for me and we’re running up front.”

It doesn’t matter the driver and Ganassi will tell you they have a lot they have a lot of potential in the coming season.“You’d have to say that they’re with Jamie. He’s proven himself with Daytona, Brickyard, those kind of races.”

When he discusses Larson he is pleased with what lies ahead but won’t make predictions. “With Kyle I don’t think anybody knows.  With the runway… he’s got a lot of runway to go and we’re just scratching the surface of what he’s capable of. I have no idea what he’s capable of and your guess is as good as mine.”

If the current state of racing is an indicator of the future then Chip Ganassi will look forward to putting up some more trophies in his trophy case.
