A beautiful Saturday afternoon set the stage for the opening weekend of NFA football which featured an Auburn Commanders vs Broome County Stallions engagement.   It was an incredible day for fans to relax and enjoy some tough competition on the field.

The Commanders would receive the ball first and would start on their 25 after a touchback.  #7, Tre Bachus, started the game off with a solid run on the second play for a 1st down.  The Commanders got pushed back after a penalty and a missed block.  This unfortunately led to a Commanders turnover in their own red zone after blocked punt by #20, Mathew Claude. The Commanders defense played hard in the hot sun but the Stallions made a td pass from QB #12, Dave Blakney, to RB #16, Jeff Carlin.  The point after was good.  This would be a disappointing start to the game 7-0 Stallions.

The Commanders answered back with some really strongoffense which produced 2 consecutive first down drives one by #44 Leon Atkins followed by another from #27 Greg Tobias.  The hard work would fall short and resulted in a turnover on downs.

The Stallions came on strong in their next drive but an impressive offensive attempt was stopped by #5, James Royal.  James came up with the ball causing an interception that got the fans to their feet.  The ensuing drive would prove successful as it culminated in at touch down.  The Commanders #23, Joe Hahn received the ball from #12, Madison Wolfanger making a big first down catch.  #7, Tre Bachus chipped in with 2 huge runs to move the chains down the field.  Chris Kitchens, #43 finished off the series with a touchdown The point after was missed making it a 7-6 Stallions game.

The momentum seemed to be changing when the Stallions QB #12, Dave Blakney threw another interception to #1, KasiemMitchell.  Unfortunately the Commanders were unable to capitalize on this down and lost the ball on the goal line.  The Commanders’ defense held on and forced the Stallions to punt after 3 downs.  The Commanders’ weren’t able to do anything on the next down but the defense came out to finish off the half with a sack from #58, Carnell Chandler.
